Homemade Guacamole

Who doesn't know and love guacamole? No, I'm not talking about the pre-packaged stuff you find in the supermarkets - I mean the freshly made, flavour filled and natural version you can easily make at home. Eat your homemade Guacamole with Nachos, on bread or bring it as a side to your next barbecue.

Traditional Guacamole comes with chilli and coriander. I understand that not everybody likes them. The good about guacamole is that it also tastes great without those.

Mash avocado with lime to create a very basic version of guacamole. With that it's still not the real thing, but still it surely is tasty. From here, you can decide which ingredients to add on. You can serve your Guac with Nachos, a cheesy sauce, bean paste or Pico de gallo.

Guacamole goes a long way

It's not just all nachos and tortilla wraps. You can use guacamole as a great companion on burgers, sandwiches, salads and bowls or even as a dip for about anything. If you look for some variation, try making it smooth or chunky. Add some seeds for more contrast in texture.

Prevent Avocado from turning brown

Avocado tends to turn brown when exposed to air, just like so many other fruits. This is because of the oxidation of a certain Polyphenole called Catechol. You can prevent the oxidation in mainly two ways: add Antioxidants and vitamin C through Lime juice to slow the process down or just by simply properly covering your dish tightly. Either prepare the dish on time, or store it sealed in a cold place.

There is no evidence that the seed prevents your guac from turning brown. It still looks nice to putting the seed on your plate for decorative purposes. But know that this only pleases the eye and does not prevent things from turning ugly.

Ingredients

  • 2 Avocados
  • 1/2 Lime juiced
  • 1 Small Onion chopped
  • 1 Tomato Roma
  • 1 pinch Chopped Cilantro Coriander Greens
  • Pepper and Salt

Instructions

  • Start off with cutting the avocado in half and removing the seed. It's recommended keeping the seed, as it slows down the oxidation if you keep it in your guacamole.
Take out the pulp off the shell and mash it with a fork until creamy. Mix the lime juice with the mashed avocado.
  • Peel and chop the onion in small pieces. Cut the tomato, remove the seeds and chop on. Mix both into your green mass.
  • Chop some chili and coriander (cilantro) and add it as well. Keep some of it to sprinkle it on top for some eye-candy. Add some pepper and salt if you like.
  • Enjoy with nachos, on bread or as a side.
